Petit Pot Mexican Hot Chocolate
Limited Edition Flavor

In May of 2024, Petit Pot released a limited edition Mexican Hot Chocolate flavor. I had the pleasure of collaborating with Olio Studio, a Bay Area packaging design studio, to design the packaging for this special release. This French pot de crème dessert brings the comforting warmth of rich hot chocolate, elevated by a hint of cinnamon. To reflect the flavor’s roots and festive spirit, I used vibrant floral motifs inspired by Mexican folk art, complemented by bright colors like orange and purple to evoke a cozy yet lively feel.

We aimed to communicate the richness of the Mexican Hot Chocolate through the use of strong contrasts and layered textures in the design. The packaging’s dynamic patterns, along with the cinnamon sticks and chocolate pieces, reinforce the spicy kick and smooth creaminess of the flavor. By blending these bold design choices with Petit Pot’s established aesthetic of playful, modern packaging, we ensured a seamless brand experience while giving this limited edition flavor its own distinct identity.

Conveying an indulgent experience.

In designing this limited edition packaging, we carefully chose bold oranges, purples, and earthy browns to reflect the warmth and richness of the Mexican Hot Chocolate flavor. These colors not only evoke a cozy, indulgent feeling but also align with Petit Pot’s playful and vibrant brand identity. The palette complements their established visual language while creating a unique twist for this limited-edition release.

Utilizing a playful color palette.

Celebrating culture and flavor.

The packaging design incorporates hand-drawn floral motifs inspired by Mexican folk art, celebrating the cultural heritage behind the flavor. These motifs, paired with cinnamon sticks and rich chocolate imagery, add warmth and authenticity. While introducing these new elements, we stayed consistent with Petit Pot’s whimsical style by maintaining the brand’s signature charm and attention to detail.

Refining the process.

Staying true to Petit Pot’s brand while introducing bold and inviting design elements that could convey the richness of this limited edition dessert flavor was my primary focus. The patterns and motifs I developed early in the design process were inspired by traditional Mexican folk art. I crafted floral elements and intricate patterns to evoke the rich cultural heritage behind the flavor. These bold, organic shapes—paired with a warm, inviting color palette of orange, purple, and earthy browns—brought the cozy, spiced feeling of Mexican hot chocolate to life. In collaboration with Olio, we refined the design while preserving my original patterns, motifs, and color choices. These key elements were woven into the final packaging, adding depth and authenticity to the product while maintaining Petit Pot’s signature playful and quirky aesthetic.
